According to Milne Edwards (1837) this taxon was described in "Seba, Thesaurus, Vol III." as Astacus marinus americanus. Seba does, however, seem to have been a pre-Linnaean author, as this volume of his Thesaurus is referred to already in "The Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London, 1756".
