The combination Gammarus ischnus is introduced in Stebbing, T. R. R. (1899). Amphipoda from the Copenhagen Museum and other sources, part II. The Transactions of the Linnean Society of London: Zoology. (ser 2) 8: 395-432, Pls 30-35., available online at <a href="http://www.biodiversitylibrary.org/page/8599617/#page/493/mode/1up">http://www.biodiversitylibrary.org/page/8599617/#page/493/mode/1up</a> page(s): 428. However, there is no original DESCRIPTION of the species there. All that is said is: "For Gammarus tenellus Sars, 1896, which is distinct from G. tenellus Dana, 1852, I propose the equivalent name G. ischnus." That leaves us with the question which publication by Sars he refers to: The last volume on Amphipoda in his "An account of the Crustacea of Norway" was issued in 1895", and the species is not included in the index of all Amphipoda volumes. Unless it is described in material from Australia or the Caspian Sea, I don't know which publication it may be...
